Dental crowns are very reliable and one of our best ways of repairing teeth here at Montebello Dental Clinic in Salmon Arm, BC. They’re different from fillings, inlays, and onlays in many ways. Fillings simply occupy a cavity. Inlays are used to fill cavities that are larger and may extend to the surface. Onlays can fill cavities and cover a cusp of the tooth.
Crowns, on the other hand, are like caps that are placed over teeth. A crown covers the entire biting surface of a tooth. If you’re looking for dental crowns near you, we have you covered with years of training and experience.
Benefits of Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are a great way of protecting teeth and providing them with structural support. A tooth with a cavity that’s too big for a filling can benefit from a dental crown. Teeth that are cracked or broken can also use the structural strength and support a dental crown provides.
At Montebello Dental Clinic, we can also recommend dental crowns for cosmetic purposes. If a tooth is deeply stained or looks odd, it can be covered and protected using a crown. There are many applications for crowns, and we can tell you whether or not you would benefit from one.
How Are Crowns Placed?
Traditionally, it takes two visits to fit a patient with a crown. During the first visit, we’ll take precise measurements of the affected tooth so they can be sent to a lab for manufacturing. We’ll place a temporary crown until the lab sends the permanent one back to us. When we get it, you’ll come back for the second and final visit.
The temporary crown is placed on your tooth to help protect the remaining tooth structure. When you come into the office, the temporary crown will be removed and then, an adhesive is placed on your teeth, which cements the permanent crown in place. Just like that, your smile is restored!
We’ll give you instructions on what to do and what to expect. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
